Years have passed since Willie slipped and fell in centerfield. The Giants continued to repulse me. But ya know I'm back for a reason. It's one you might not be thinking of.
In the last 25 years, I've hosted a Strat-O-Matic Baseball league. Look it up. It kept 6 guys together for about 11 years then one of our guys died, and we didn't quite feel like rolling the dice for another 4 years. Then I got 4 of us back together and we went Cyber. I moved from the Bay Area to Washington State (became an Ichiro fan) my co-commissioner moved to L.A. and is still there. I've since moved to the Monterey Peninsula.
It's sort of like a fantasy league only in our league, you have to play the games. (one at bat at a time). So managing, defense, offense and especially pitching is important.
You all know why I turned on the Gigantes, but in 2008 I ended up with Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain and Buster Posey. (as well as Madison Bumgardner, Angel Villalona, and Tim Alderson) I thought this is interesting, the Giants went after some great pitching. AND ROGER CRAIG won't be around to ruin their arms. (I spoke too soon, it seems Lincecum pitched 500 innings in his first two seasons, *[shakes head] . But I had followed Buster Posey even before the Giants drafted him. Now he's up and being abused by the Giants. Ya see, this is what I hate about the Giants, They have no reservations about starting a 37 year old "has been" that weighs 300 lbs, and is hitting .058 (while paying him 4.5 million US) and forcing Posey to hit for him. He can't catch, (even though Posey won the golden Spikes award) but he's to stay at first base and just hit. Now there's rumors of Matt Cain going to Philly?
This is why I left the Orange and Black. I question how many bannanas the front office geniuses have to eat a day to make these career decisions.
But I came back because a couple of months ago I ran into Willie Mays. I came back because the Giants are finally finished with the "Steroid Overlord". I came back because it looked like Posey was the start of a "New Era" in Giant Baseball. I came back so I could be a kid again. I came back to get my mind off the collapse of our country, economy and constitution. I came back for my health. I came back just.................because.
