BUSTER POSEY

I've followed Buster Posey since his days at Florida State. He played against Stanford in the 2007 College World Series. In the final game of the World series, Posey caught 5 innings, played shortstop and If my memory serves me correct, he closed the game. I hadn't seen anything like this since Jose O'quendo in 1987.

In the Minors, Posey at the age of 22 showed himself to be a man amongst boys. He was hitting .350 in Sacramento when he was called up to add Offensive punch to the Giant's anemic roster. For those of you Giant fans that don't know; Posey is NOT the new Giants first baseman; He's one of baseball's best catchers that is forced to play first base to get his bat in the line-up. (Molina said he would not be a mentor to Posey)

In the Giants camp; many writers felt that Posey won the job. After signing Molina as catching insurance, the Giants sent Posey down in an attempt to keep his Major League clock from ticking. Now you wonder if the GM's penny pinching decision got him into a clubhouse conflict.

The night Buster Posey was brought up to play 1B for the Giants, the line-up (sans Molina) beat the D-Backs 12 to 1. It was a great feeling for everyone except Bengie Molina. Who now appears to be a DC or Designated Catcher. Bengie still has tools behind the plate, but he seems to be having trouble turning on fastballs, and the Giants actually prefer that he not get on base or come up with the bases empty. Bruce Bochy has a real problem. Where to bat Bengie?

Last night, (Sat 6/05) Buster went behind the plate for his first major league catching experience. To quote Duane Kuiper:"He took to it like a duck to water".

I think the back up catcher Eli Whiteside could have a future at first base. Eli showed his power in Friday's come back and of course Posey has gotten a hit in every game he's been in except his first game against Ubaldo Jiminez.

In the meantime, Bengie is 3 for his last 51 at bats, hitting around .248. Posey is 12 for 27, hitting .444. The Giants need to start the post Bonds era now. Get rid of anyone that was connected with using Steroids in the early 2000s. They need to start promoting young promising talent in the minors. They CAN'T LET AGING VETERANS LIKE MOLINA ruin what appears to be a growing chemistry of enthusiastic young talent.
